Position Title: Radiology/CT Technologist
Department: Radiology
Supervisor: Diagnostic Imaging Director
DEFINITIONS:
Radiologic Technologist: Responsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in diagnostic radiology to ensure the production of quality images of all anatomical structures for interpretation by Radiologist.
ALARA principle: As Low As Reasonably Achievable-a safety principle specifically designed to reduce radiation doses and releases of radioactive materials.
I . ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Effectively operates and maintains required equipment necessary to produce radiographic images.
1. Knowledge of radiographic equipment and various functions within assigned area is demonstrated to ensure continuation of services to patients.
2. Takes extra care to ensure equipment is used, stored, and / or parked appropriately to avoid excessive damage, neglect or abuse.
3. Radiographic equipment inspection and quality assurance is conducted daily to ensure diagnostic quality of each procedure. Equipment malfunctions and/or needed repairs are reported to appropriate supervisor/clinical engineering following written policy guidelines.
B. Follows established imaging protocols and ensures image quality standards are met.
1. Routine protocols and /or physician specific directions for examinations are followed consistently in assigned areas.
2. pproved lead markers are used to properly identify patient position on X-ray image in accordance with Diagnostic Division policies.
3. Supporting demographics utilized to ensure appropriate communication with radiologist regarding relative patient positioning.
4. Performs other procedures related to patient care duties in assigned clinical areas. Such procedures include, but not limited to, enema tips, and IV access.
5. Images are verified as received by PACS. Errors are promptly corrected or reported to supervisor or lead technologist.
6. Repeats are kept to a minimum and/or appointed to the supervisor or lead technologist.
C. Follows established Safety Standards to ensure safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
1. Patient requisition is reviewed and verified for accurate demographics and clinical data to ensure correct procedure is performed.
2. Patient is identified in accordance with established hospital and radiology policies using two unique patient identifiers.
3. ncillary equipment (suction, O2, monitoring devices, positioning aids) are replenished, repaired and/or replaced as necessary.
4. Knowledge of proper fire and safety procedures and evacuation plan is demonstrated.
5. Infection control standards are observed in assigned patient care areas.
6. Radiation protection policies are observed, ALARA principle always followed.
7. Radiation protection devices are implemented when deemed necessary.
8. Knowledge of proper use of Lift equipment.
D. Instructs students and residents and performs preceptor duties as necessary.
1. Verification is ensured that staff appropriately supervises student's scheduled clinical rotations.
2. Student clinical documentation forms are completed and reviewed with student in a timely manner.
3. Feedback provided to students regarding their work habits to ensure patient safety and confidentiality at all times.
4. Clinical experience evaluation are verified and reviewed by technologist.
5. ssists and participates in instructing residents on procedure protocols.
E. Establishes ownership of clinical area by taking pride in appearance and readiness of exam rooms, equipment and supplies.
1. Completes supply check list as designated by lead tech or manager.
2. Takes steps necessary to ensure cleanliness and organization of work environment.
3. Expired items are promptly removed and replaced accordingly.
4. Demonstrates responsible use of supplies to reduce waste and maintain effective supply management.
5. Reports needed repairs to 2-fixx or supervisor.

III. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A. High School Graduate or Equivalent.
B. No experience required, but experienced technologist will be considered before a non-experienced technologist.
C. License/Certification:
1. Registered Radiologic Technologist through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Radiography and CT.
2. License to operate Radiation Producing Equipment and CT from the State of Nevada.
3. BLS certification required within 60 days of hire.
D. Physical requirements
1. Standing for prolonged periods.
2. Frequently bending/stooping and walking.
3. Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
4. Repetitive motion (computer keyboard).
5. bility to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.
E. Other Requirements
1. May be exposed to chemicals, cold, dust noise, radiation, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
